Nine-piece avant-folk collective Bishopskin have dropped their fantastic debut album, Babble. Our favourite track from the album is the stunning, ‘Stella Splendens’. Its unique, bouncy sound is courtesy of Tati Gutteridge, whose blend of Latin hymn and Ukrainian folk gift us something musically special. Its distinctive rhythms are layered with punchy strings and memorable vocal melodies delivered with energy. The album itself took the band multiple years and many re-records, with a batch of fifty tracks being whittled down to its final eleven. “You’re like an artist sculpting,” says founder James Donovan. “You're trying to move it. You're trying to look at it from a different angle. You're trying to see what it looks like, if you stand low and look up.” Babble is out now, and the band are playing in London on November 3rd, 2023. -Dan Peeke
